About

Why choose our firewood logs?

In the United Kingdom there are vast amounts of unmanaged woodlands. This is where Anglia firewood sources its timber for conversion into air dried firewood, because it is a partially untapped source of renewable energy on our doorstep.

Our firewood is naturally air dried for at least one year down to below 25% moisture content; therefore no energy is required commonly used to speed up the drying process.

In the United Kingdom there are vast amounts of unmanaged woodlands. This is where Anglia firewood sources its timber for conversion into air dried firewood, because it is a partially untapped source of renewable energy on our doorstep.

Management of woodlands can consist of thinning out of non native species, thinning of overcrowded planting, removal of diseased trees etc. in order that stronger more favorable trees can flourish.
Management of woodlands not only prolongs the life of the woodland but it also improves the eco system, giving rise to a wealth of insects, birds and mammals.

Most kiln dried firewood is imported from Eastern Europe, which leaves a large carbon footprint by the time it reaches your door – Wood fuel is carbon neutral, unlike the diesel used in shipping and the fuel used in the kilns to dry the wood!

The air dried firewood & logs used by Anglia Firewood are environmentally friendly.

Many tree species are unsuitable for burning and have a high resin content which can cause a black, treacle like deposit in your chimney or burner, the consequences of this can be extremely expensive and in nearly all cases chimney sweeping costs are increased. This is mainly associated with softwood i.e. pine, larch, spruce, cypress, leylandii etc. and should be avoided.

Some species have wood fibre which is made up in such a way that when burnt causes spitting and cracking and can cause a fire risk. This is associated with wetland trees such as willow, alder etc. and should be avoided.
